FairPoint Communications
FairPoint is a telecommuncations company who, in early 2009, completed acquisition of telephone operations in the states of Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. their public website needed significant updates, and Hill Holliday tapped us to take on the project.
Major content revisions requested included updating all product names to FairPoint’s own trademarks, as well as changing all instances of billing and contact information. as we assessed the project, we also determined that their website was lacking valid, semantic code for layout, and tables used for product pricing and information were not structured for accessibility.
in addition to all textual and branding changes on the site, we revamped HTML & CSS for consistency, validity, and search engine findability. CSS files were combined into one for performance, redundant selectors removed, and all styles organized by scope and specificity. HTML validation errors were fixed across the site.
the display of plans, rates, and features were moved into valid, accessible data tables. we used JQuery to create advanced functionality for identifying a user’s state of residence, and customizing the display of products and services available for each visitor.
we also used jQuery to transform simple HTML elements into drop-downs, lightboxes and popups. all functionality degrades gracefully for downlevel browsers.
